Product sourcing is the work of moving from "I want to sell this" to "I have this in stock at a workable cost". For businesses in Bangladesh buying from China, that work usually breaks into a few clear stages.

Define the requirement properly

A vague requirement produces vague quotations. The more precisely you describe the product, the more useful the responses will be. A good requirement usually includes:

  • Product name and a reference image or link
  • Key specifications you cannot compromise on
  • Quantity you intend to order
  • Target budget or target selling price
  • Packaging expectations

Research and shortlist

Most products exist in several quality tiers at very different prices. Sourcing research is largely about identifying which tier matches your budget and your customer, rather than simply finding the cheapest listing.

Compare like with like

When comparing options, check that you are comparing the same specification. Differences in material, thickness, battery capacity, accessories or packaging often explain a price gap that looks surprising at first.

Confirm before committing

Before an order is placed, the specification, quantity, packaging and shipping method should all be agreed. Changes after production starts are usually slower and more expensive than changes made beforehand.

Where a sourcing partner helps

A sourcing partner mainly saves you time on research, comparison and coordination — particularly if you are managing a shop or an online page and cannot spend hours reviewing listings. It does not remove the need for you to know your own market and margins.
